Incubation Chamber is a local group of artists who meet at Bath Artists Studios every three weeks, where we discuss artistic theory, our practices, and generally keep the discourse going. The aim is to challenge ourselves and bring those developments into our practices, with a long-term aim to bring the discourse into the wider community.
Incubation Chamber follows the model of an alternative academy of art exploring a programme of activity that is shaped by participants.
The group is artist-led and responds to contemporary developments and individual needs. Fluid, committed and open, the group is designed to inspire, express and progress artistic practice within a supportive and continually evolving framework.
Each member of the group has the chance to regularly prompt a topic or subject for discussion. To date including; object assemblages, conceptual art and the overlooked, identity politics, the aesthetic dimension, new materialism, public art, and a practical look at the expanded field of drawing.
Above all, the aim is for this group to be an evolving co-operative, the members bring an open mind, a willingness to converse, and a passion for contemporary practice. The incubation chamber is a space to; open the conversation, challenge our practices, and socialise with like-minded people. A test space where materials, wild thoughts, radical ideas and philosophical inquiry can be sown, flourish and grow.
A space to share and sow ideas, a space to collaborate, a space for serious play, a space to test and explore.
