This week, we are delighted to welcome Manchester based painter Peter Seal who will be exhibiting in the Roper Gallery. We are also pleased to be working with Peter’s representative, Anthony Hepworth Fine Art Dealers in staging this exhibition and would like to thank them for their support.
Peter Seal’s abstract paintings and collages invite meditative engagement, evoking a range of moods through his handling of colour and form. The exhibition includes examples of early work in which colour relationships are explored through minimal geometric forms. These paintings are the product of sustained contemplation and typically convey a sense of deep time.
In recent years Peter has begun to work on small monochrome collages as a focussed way of exploring composition. This has led on to a series of larger black and white compositions on canvas which have an immediate dramatic quality, as will as structural developments in his colour compositions. Peter has been based in Manchester for over three decades having trained at Manchester Polytechnic in the 1980s following a BA in Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee.
“His work has substance and integrity; its quality is indisputable’ Dr Ian Massey 2014.
